Agricultural Support to Farmers in Ar-Raqqa and Deir ez-Zor Governorates – Phase VI

Building on the success of the first five phases of the intervention, “Agricultural Support to Farmers in Ar-Raqqa Governorate”, and in light of the continued need for agricultural and food security support in the region, the SRTF approved: “Agricultural Support to Farmers in Ar-Raqqa and Deir ez-Zor Governorates – Phase VI.”

This project aims to improve the living conditions and food security for people living in the targeted areas by boosting cereal production and enhancing local livelihoods in eight farming cooperatives (five in ArRaqqa, and three in Deir ez-Zor).

This will be achieved through a series of deliveries such as agricultural inputs and equipment to existing farmers’ cooperatives, and providing seeds, pesticides, fertilizer, and other farming consumables to farmers of these cooperatives who are currently cultivating wheat, barley, and vegetables.

To that end, the intervention will carry out the following activities:

  • Procurement and delivery of agricultural machinery and equipment to farmers cooperatives.
  • Procurement and distribution of agricultural consumables to farmers including wheat seeds, fertilizer, pesticides, personal protective equipment (PPE) for farming and spraying chemicals, and sacks.
  • Establishment of eight Cooperatives Administrative Units (CAUs) to boost the administrative capacity of targeted farming cooperatives.
  • Hiring, training, and mentoring twenty-four local young women on administrative operations to facilitate the needs of the farmers, with proper information management and record keeping.
  • Identification and training of eighty-two community members from the targeted communities on operation and maintenance of the delivered agricultural machinery.

With a total budget of EUR 6.6 million, this intervention is estimated to benefit around 2,400 local farmers, their families, and associated workers cultivating 4,900 hectares of land.

This will positively impact surrounding areas, boosting the local economy and achieving sustainable food security through increasing food production in the eight targeted communities.
