Rehabilitation of an Electricity Grid in a City in Idleb Governorate
Electricity transformers have burned, cables have gone missing, and electrical relays and other equipment have been destroyed or are in need of severe repair. Without electricity, water pumps do not function, food production is reduced, and there is a meager provision of health care services and other public goods such as post offices and communications facilities.
The objective of this project is to restore the electricity service in the project area. As such, this project will repair and restore the public electricity network of the selected area and its surrounding countryside by replacing destroyed parts and equipment of the network and upgrading the public utility line. Doing so will provide essential services with more reliable electricity.
Over 100.000 people will benefit from this project:
- increased service coverage from 40% to 80%;
- an increased supply of power for residences from four hours per day to six hours per day (an increase of 25%); and,
- an increased supply of power for essential service providers from 16 hours to 22 hours per day.
The financing agreement for this project was signed in late March 2014, and it is expected to be completed by March 2015.
